Looking Ahead At Growing Our First Hay Crop at Bel Cavallo Farm

As we settle into winter at Bel Cavallo Farm, we’re already dreaming about spring—and with it, our first hay crop. While hay is typically planted in the fall for the best root establishment, spring is still an excellent time to seed depending on the variety and weather conditions. For us, it’ll mark an exciting milestone as we take another step toward creating a self-sustaining farm.

Good hay isn’t just about feeding horses; it’s about quality, care, and consistency. We’re planning to grow premium hay that will not only nourish our future broodmares and foals but also reflect our commitment to sustainable farming practices.

The fields are ready, the plan is in place, and we can’t wait to see those first green shoots emerge as the weather warms up. It’s a small thing in the grand scheme of building a farm, but growing our own hay feels like laying down roots—literally and figuratively.

Stay tuned as we share updates on our hay-growing journey. Here’s to green fields, thriving crops, and a bright season ahead at Bel Cavallo Farm!
