Finding Home in the Racing Community

Our love for horse racing goes beyond the thrill of the track—it’s rooted in the people, partnerships, and stories that bring this sport to life. Moving to Lexington, the heart of horse country, wasn’t just a change of scenery; it was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. Selling our California home, bringing Blizzie and Balu across the country, and stepping into this vibrant community marked the start of a new chapter for us.

Why We Chose Lexington

The decision to move wasn’t made lightly. For years, we admired the culture of horse racing from afar, but being here, surrounded by farms, tracks, and passionate horse people, has deepened our connection to the sport. Lexington isn’t just where we live—it’s where we’ve found a community that shares our values and our dreams.

Selling a home we had for decades and leaving California was bittersweet, but the promise of being part of something bigger made it worth it. Seeing Blizzie and Balu thrive on sprawling pastures instead of stalls was a beautiful reminder of why we made this leap. For us, this journey is about more than racing; it’s about building a life centered on what we love.

The Role of Horses Like Seize the Grey

Every horse we partner with teaches us something new, and Seize the Grey is no exception. His journey to the Preakness Stakes in 2024 was a testament to the dedication of everyone involved in his care. Watching him secure victory in the 149th Preakness Stakes on May 18, 2024, was a moment of pride and gratitude—a reminder of the incredible opportunities this community provides.

Seize the Grey embodies the spirit of racing: resilience, teamwork, and heart. His 2024 season was especially remarkable, with wins in the Pat Day Mile Stakes and the Pennsylvania Derby, showcasing his incredible talent and determination. His success isn’t just about what happens on the track; it’s about the trainers, jockeys, and stablehands who believed in him every step of the way. Being part of that journey, even in a small way, reinforces why we love this sport and this community.

Our Vision for Bel Cavallo

As we continue to build our farm, we remain committed to staying small but intentional. With just eight stalls planned and a focus on two broodmares a year, our goal isn’t to compete with the larger operations but to contribute meaningfully to the racing world. Horses like Seize the Grey inspire us to dream of the day when a horse raised at Bel Cavallo might race on those same prestigious tracks.

But more than that, our vision is about connection. We want to be part of the stories that make this community so vibrant—whether it’s cheering on a Preakness contender, celebrating a win, or simply supporting the people who make it all possible.
